Baby's first 5K

It's been a few years. We're a little older and a little slower, but we thought it would be fun to do the Rex Lee Run again. It was yesterday, and we had a blast!
The race started at 9:00, which was great since I thought it started a lot earlier. Here's a picture of the three of us before it started. Notice Rob's shoes? Last fall he started barefoot running, and these are the shoes you can use for that technique when you're on a surface that is not hospitable to bare feet. The Rex Lee Run has a 5K and a 10K, and since neither of us has been training much we opted for the 5K. This is the furthest Rob has run in his Five Finger shoes, and it went pretty well.
This picture summarizes what Gavin thought of the whole thing. He LOVED it!! The whole time he was just chattering and being super sweet. I was worried that he would get bored and be fussy, but he was so chipper the whole time. This bodes well for my summertime running plans. :)
We were a part of the stroller brigade clear at the back of the pack. It was fun to start several minutes after the gun because we got to pass quite a lot of people who ran out of steam. We even passed a few people during the last stretch. I wanted to say, "Come on! You're being passed by a stroller!" but I didn't. I really, really enjoy passing people. I think Gavin does, too.
Here we are at the finish line. Our time was not stellar, but I can't remember the last time I had so much fun running.
My sweet boys in front of the football stadium. Aren't they just the greatest?!

And now, a soapbox moment with Rebecca. I've got to say that I am not at all happy with what they've done to the Rex Lee Run logo.
Here's a picture I found online of the old logo (because I'm too lazy to dig out my own t-shirt and take a picture of that). Nice and simple. Everyone recognizes it. The bars were a different color every year. I was a fan.
Here's the new logo. Why change a classic? I guess my biggest issue with it is that when I saw it, my first thought was "Jesus fish." Do you see it, too? Upon further consideration, I have decided that another reason I can hate it is that it says "On your mark, get set" which implies the beginning of a race, yet there is a runner appearing to finish the race. I know I'm really digging here, but I guess I want to justify my dislike in as many ways as possible.

Okay, I'm finished. We had such a great day (in spite of the new logo) and I'm glad we were a part of such a great cause.

I {heart} D.I.

Today while I was out running errands I decided to stop by D.I. It's been a long, long while since I've had a good find, but I thought I'd give it a shot. I didn't have a ton of time to really dig like you sometimes have to, plus I had Gavin with me which meant I only had one free hand, but behold my amazing find!
It is size 18 months, so it will be just right for Gavin to wear next fall. Brand new with the tag still on, and it only cost three bucks! Oh, how I love a bargain!
